Abu Dhabi says AI frees 280,000 government work hours a year for complex cases Abu Dhabi’s Department of Government Enablement (DGE) says AI now lets government staff move around 280,000 working hours a year from routine processing to cases that need human judgement, Khaleej Times reported on 13 October 2026. The figures were shared at a media briefing for HR Tech Abu Dhabi. The emirate says its focus is shifting from training staff in AI to measuring how their work changes.

Khaleej Times reported DGE figures showing about 280,000 working hours a year moved from routine processing to complex cases that need human judgement and expertise. DGE said teams using TAMM, Abu Dhabi’s unified government services platform, can launch and quality-check new services 70 to 80 per cent faster. A DGE official framed the test as “What changes on Monday morning?”, meaning what changes in capabilities, services and satisfaction. Khaleej Times quoted DGE Director General Mariam Al Musharrekh saying the strategy includes more than 100 live AI use cases and aims to make continuous learning part of everyday work. Simon Foster, Group CEO of ARC Network, cautioned against assuming AI tools mean a smaller workforce. Khaleej Times noted that he gave no staffing figures or evidence of a wider trend. The briefing was for HR Tech Abu Dhabi, an event developed by DGE, ADNEC Group and ARC Network that comes to Abu Dhabi in November 2027. What it adds up to
Abu Dhabi’s question is a good one to borrow: after the AI training, what actually changes in your working week? Counting courses completed tells you little. Counting the hours that moved from routine work to work that needs your judgement tells you much more. This week, pick one task you now do with AI. Note roughly how long it took before, how long it takes now, and what you did with the time you saved. If the answer is more of the same routine work, that’s worth knowing too.
