WEF and Bain estimate AI could add over $1 trillion in MENA value by 2030 A World Economic Forum report with Bain & Company, published on 14 October 2026, estimates AI could unlock more than $1 trillion in economic and sustainability value across MENA by 2030. That’s a modelled estimate, not a forecast of what will happen. The report says reaching it depends on using AI for more than small improvements, and on grids, power and water keeping up with data centres.

The WEF published Unlocking Value: AI for Resilient Growth in MENA, developed with Bain & Company, on 14 October. A second report on data centre infrastructure, developed with Saudi Research and Media Group, came out the same day. Tbreak explained that the $1 trillion combines five categories, including sustainable financing, public investment flows and avoided asset losses. Gulf Business reported that the report draws on case studies with First Abu Dhabi Bank, Bahrain’s Ministry of Sustainable Development, ADNOC and Saudi Arabia’s Ministry of Economy and Planning. Gulf Business described FAB’s Sustainable Finance Market Pulse, an AI agent that scans thousands of market signals each week for sustainable lending opportunities. The report estimates wider use could add around $200 billion in sustainable lending by 2030. Tbreak reported that 89% of sustainability leaders surveyed by the MENA Chief Sustainability Officers Network see high or very high potential in AI. The WEF said there is a large gap between that potential and actual adoption. Gulf Business listed the barriers the report found: weak decision-making, difficulty treating sustainability as a source of economic value, and a habit of using AI only for small improvements. Tbreak noted that cooling can take more than 40% of a data centre’s electricity, and that the region’s heat makes cooling more energy-intensive. What it adds up to
The barrier that matters for your work is the last one on the report’s list: using AI only for small improvements. Saving minutes on a task is a fair start. The value in the report’s examples came from new work, such as an agent reading thousands of signals each week that no team had time to read. This week, pick one source you’d like to track but never get to, such as tender notices or competitor announcements. Test whether AI can give you a weekly summary of it, and check the first few summaries against the originals.
