WAM reported on 21 April that DIFC will embed AI in its legal frameworks, business environment, talent development, infrastructure and physical spaces, rather than piloting it at the edges. Khaleej Times said DIFC expects the programme to create 25,000 jobs and AED 12.9 billion ($3.5 billion) in economic benefits. WAM said DIFC will give financial firms access to advanced AI tools and offer a full-stack AI Campus combining regulation, training, computing power and physical AI. DIFC’s release, carried on Yahoo Finance, said AI will be built into enterprise workflows, compliance systems and the delivery of financial services. DIFC also plans to export AI governance software and trained talent to the Global South. The same release said DIFC aims to lead other top financial centres for AI-in-finance startups, venture funding and unicorns. WAM quoted DIFC Authority CEO Arif Amiri saying DIFC will set a global benchmark for AI governance and responsible innovation. Gulf News reported on 8 June that Sheikh Hamdan visited DIFC and reviewed its AI strategy. Arabian Business and Fast Company Middle East also covered the plan. What it adds up to
If you work in finance, compliance or a DIFC-licensed firm, note the phrase “compliance systems”. When a financial centre plans to build AI into compliance, expect more questions about how your own team uses AI: what it checks, what gets recorded, and who signs off.
